scholar highlight of the month

Freely In Hope

My highlight this month was being able to stay with my family and bond in these last couple of months. While sheltering in place in the village, I have been able to interact with them and learn several things that I did not know. I also taught my family new things about me so that we can all grow stronger in our relationships together. It has been a great highlight for me since I have also been able to meet new family members in the village.

Another highlight is that I have been able to reflect on myself and get to understand myself better. I have found the serenity to know who I am and what I want in life.

staff reflection

Freely In Hope

This month, I met with the first cohort of Malkia women to talk about the opportunities they have for building a sustainable livelihood. I saw how big their dreams were and the determination they had to make it in life. We have had 2 women already hired for paid baking jobs! Also, due to Freely in Hope’s COVID-19 Relief Fund, we were able to gift 20 women with food baskets. It gave them the freedom to stay off of the streets during the pandemic.

When I first saw the Malkia women with their food baskets, I was emotional and overjoyed. Their eyes grew bright! The hope in their smiles showed that there was so much joy—some of them even became emotional. They joked about how they would not be going to the streets for a while, saying that we have no idea the trouble we saved them. Providing food during this time was very important to us because all the women have children. They were expecting support from the government for food supply during the pandemic, but many deserving people missed out on government support. The food baskets Freely in Hope provided made them feel loved and cared for. We showed them that there are people who consider them worthy.
